SRD Study 0136: Purchase Agreements
 |
For experiment 0136 we wanted to invistigate the effectiveness of purchase agreements on customer satisfaction. NA Trading and Technology does not use any kind of purchase agreements, but some of the competition does, and NATT management could only give "gut insinct" reasons for this. In the world of reason, we use logic and the scientific method to make our decisions, not our digestive organs.
A NATT sales rep and a sales rep from the competition were both taken to seperate, secure fascilities. They both were provided with a phone to talk to an actual customer and convince the customer to agree to their terms. In the case of the competition, this was a purchase agreement requiring the customer to commit to a certain level of purchase in order to get good pricing. For NATT, this was just good pricing.
To motivate the sales staff, each was placed in a room with a thermonuclear accelerator. The rep who lost the sale would have the accelerator ignited. As further motivation, a puppy was placed in the room with them. No one wants to see a puppy come to harm, as we established in study 0011.
Based on our results, the NATT way is, in fact preferred to cumbersome purchase agreements; however, due to the loss of one of our secure fascilities, we were only able to conduct this experiment once. Futher funding is needed for truly conclusive results.

SRD Study 0573: Control Process
 |
Dr. Tatyana Ivannovich-Bolera: For this experiment we looking at business practice and process to make better way of doing things.
We start with NA Trading and Technology employee, and employee of competition company. We put each person into cage and lock them in. Then we suspend cages over pool with thousand of the pirhana fishes, which can eat flesh off of human is seconds. We give each person bag of tools and slowly lower cages into pirhana tank. They have ten minutes to be escaping before getting eaten by the pirhana fish.
NA Trading and Technology employee uses Six Sigma process. So he start by writing process documents about the escaping process. Compeittion does not use control process and he just start sawing on bars with hacksaw. This happen for several minutes. Competition has cut through some bars and NA Trading man has completed official process document.
Eventually both get cages open, but is only first step. NA Trading man follows process to use bars removed to create ladder bridge away from pirhana fish. Competition man has no process, and he jumps from cage - but he make error since cage is hanging from chain, it swing out behind him and he fall into pirhana fish where there is much splashing.
We conclude that Six Sigma process work at reducing errors in manufacturing process, and is better to have this process than have no process.
